Best Quotes of the Year

Yes, it is the time of year where lists and rankings come out to remind us of what has happened over the course of 2007. I had forgotten some of these quotations but had a good laugh at some of them. To see the full list click here, otherwise here are a few of my favorite:

"Don't tase me bro!"

"In Iran we don't have homosexuals like in your country."

"I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because some people out there in our nation don't have maps and I believe that our education like such as in South Africa and Iraq and everywhere like such as and I believe that they should our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S. or should help South Africa and should help Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future for us."

"That's some nappy-headed hos there"

Good times! (Thats me, not a top quote of 2007 in case you were wondering)

You know, that kid in Florida was an asshole and arrogant. And yeah, maybe he needed to be escorted out. But I can't understand the humor in "Don't tase me bro!"

I've seen several sources using it, even for some advertising and it's twisted. I mean, dude is essentially begging not to be tortured and people are latching onto it.

I'm not trying to come down on you in particular Kasey.

I have to disagree. He clearly went there to get some attention and make a statement of some kind. Once they attempted to escort him out he clearly resisted, was making it a joke and he even laughs at one point. When he finally realizes they are serious (duh) he continues to resist and starts yelling and screaming about why they are arresting him and he is still yelling and screaming when they tell him to stop resisting or he will be tased. Once you are under arrest you cant just say ok nevermind all of that, let me just leave now.

I don't think there's any doubt that he went to this lecture with Senator Kerry intending to make a scene (there was reportedly plenty of evidence on his Web site that he views himself as something of a prankster), perhaps this didnt go exactly as planned but he definitely got what the attention that he wanted.

Also according to the police report, he later told officers, "I am not mad at you guys, you didn't do anything wrong, you were just trying to do your job."

With all of that in mind I am sure it wasn't funny at the time for him, but I think he probably has a sense of humor about it now and to me that makes it ok for me to see the humor in it as well.

Regardless of all that, I still believe the use of tasers in most instances, including this one, excessive force. When you've got a cop sitting on a guy on the ground and five or six more standing around, the use of a taser is a ridiculous notion.

And as I've said before, being a douchebag attention whore is still no reason for excessive force.

I can definitely laugh about stuff after it's happened, but believe me, when serious shit is going down and I'm in the hands of people who can literally and legally kill me, I'm not joking around anymore.

Honestly, "Don't tase me bro!" could have been the guy's last words before the electrical shock killed him.

And please don't come at me with, he got what he deserved.

What I know is that if I am getting arrested, whether or not I believe I should be or not, I am not going to resist because thats against the law and I know that I could get myself into more trouble if I do that. You are right being arrested it isnt a joke and he initially treated it that way and put the officers in a tough position.

It is not about you deserving it or not it is about the consequences of your actions. I accept that if I resist arrest there is a chance that I could get hurt so I dont do it. The guy who got tased doesnt even believe that the officers were in the wrong for doing it.

It reminds me of an issue a while back about safety and train tracks where people were upset when someone got killed because he was drunk and stubmling around on the train tracks. Absolutely it is upsetting and a tragedy but hello you are drunk and stumbling along the train tracks. Did he "deserve" to die, no but his behavior caused it to happen.

I do hear what you are saying about when and under what circumstances should we use tasors though and it is an issue that could be better addressed, but under this post I was referring to quotes from 2007 that were memorable.
I think the dont tease me bro quote and the nappy headed hos quote arent roll on the ground laughing quotes but they are definitely memorable and I can find some humor in the taser guy mostly due to his attitude before the incident and his reaction when it was over and done with. I do have a penchant to find humor in most situtions and have a love of innapropriate humor though so maybe its just me:)

And that was why I wasn't really coming down on you for posting it, mostly because you didn't explicitly say you found it funny. Maybe you do.

I saw an AOL commercial recently (I think it was AOL) that I'll try to link to when I get home.

And as a sidenote, if I felt I was being arrested unjustly, absolutely I would resist. Physically, probably not, but verbally, you bet I'd be saying some thing.

i find 'don't tase me bro' to be a humorous catch phrase detached of it's original context.

i think it's the bro that does it for me.
